Student Exchange Program to Konkuk University, ROK

I. An Overview of Konkuk University

Of more than 370 universities and colleges in ROK, Konkuk University located in Soeul ranks among the top 10. The university boasts a fulltime faculty of 1000 and 1100 non-fulltime tutors, 120 majors for postgraduate students and 69 majors for undergraduates and 55 majors for doctoral candidates. Among a total of 25,000 students, 3000 are postgraduate students. With more than 30 research centers and institutes, the university is well-known for its brilliant academic achievements. Among the prestigious specialties offered by the university are real estate, economics, business, public management, politics, the humanities, veterinary medicine, aviation technology, molecular biology, industrial design, environmental science, animal husbandry, etc.  

II. Duration of Study: One semester

III. Course Selection

1. In accordance with specialties and requirements of universities recommended, students are expected to select courses which are relevant to their own majors and delivered in either English or Chinese. Class hours of courses delivered in English must account for at least two thirds of all class hours of courses selected.

2. On condition that students can ensure the smooth ongoing of courses of their specialties, they may take Korean Language as an elective course based on their own interests


IV. Expenses that Occur under this Exchange Program

1. Tuition: Full exemption of tuition, which is an equivalent of around 4,000,000 won per semester

2. Accommodation: A total of 1,600,000 won for accommodation (covering expenses for 131 meals, either morning or evening meals) in each semester shall be paid by students themselves.

3. Meal Fees: A total of 131 meals (either morning or evening meals) are included in accommodation costs.

4. Air Tickets: to be effected by students themselves

5. Overseas Insurance Premium: to be effected by students themselves

V. Selection Criteria:

1. An ideal candidate is expected to love his or her motherland, cherish his or her collective organization, have a strong urge to press ahead along a mental journey, and observe Regulations on the Management of Exchange Students of Beijing Union University;

2. Preferences will be given to those who are winners of either nationwide or municipal scholarships, who are excellent student cadres and who are straight-A students.

3. Priority will be given to students with a good command of English, or those who have passed CET-4 or CET-6.

4. Candidates for the exchange program will be selected from the second-year or third-year undergraduates or postgraduates.

VI. Materials to be Submitted:

1. A completely filled-out form titled BUU Students Information Review Form for Overseas Study (Where students’ personal information is concerned, contents to be filled in this section must be typed and printed; please do not fill in manually)

2. At least two letters of recommendation, one is from a teacher who teaches the student in question specialized courses, the other is from an English teacher whose letter of recommendation must be written in English; all contents of the letter except the signature must be printed electronically, please do not write manually.)

3. Two copies of transcripts issued by the school authorities (with seals of the school stamped on both copies)

4. Photocopied versions of miscellaneous certificates relevant to this application

VII. Selection Process:

1. The college will recommend one to two students, whose applications will be submitted to and examined by the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Beijing Union University. Only candidates whose application materials meet the standards laid out by the school authorities will be informed of the time and place for an interview.

2. International Exchange and Cooperation Office will be responsible for the overall coordination and arrangement of the interview, and it will inform relevant colleges of the names of students who get approved.

3. Students who get selected in this process shall submit relevant application materials to the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, and shall sign an agreement on overseas study. Then the International Exchange and Cooperation Office will help the students with the formalities needed to be performed when going abroad for personal reasons.
